Discarding, demolishing and rebuilding are the everyday norm in construction. However, ecological realities are forcing us to rethink this position. Climate change and social change are intensifying the demand for integrative, ecological spaces. The tabula rasa method, in which interior structures are completely removed and replaced with new designs, is an obsolete model. Instead, the palimpsest, the continuation of building with existing structures, is becoming an integral part of architecture. In the design process, polyvalent uses must be developed from the outset, circular construction processes must be incorporated and conventional construction methods, production and manufacturing processes must be scrutinised.

Students at Berlin International University are taking the Haus 10/11 buildings as an impulse for ecological action and continuing to build.
